Dr. Wolfgang Haller

Dr. Wolfgang Haller is generally acknowledged to be the inventor of Controlled Pore Glass (CPG), US Patent No. 3,549,524. Formally trained in Austria, Dr. Haller received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Vienna in 1950. Since 1958, Dr. Haller has worked for The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he served as a Senior Research Scientist, Chief of the Inorganic Glass Section and Group Leader of the Glass and Optical Materials Group. Today he is a Guest Researcher at NIST in the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory- Ceramics Division.

Dr. Haller’s research interests include: synthesis and properties of nanoparticles, surface chemistry, physics and chemistry of glasses, glass technology and separation science. He has received: The Presidential Science Medal, First Class in the Federal Republic of Austria (1966); The R&D 100 Award (1978); The Gold Medal Award, U.S. Department of Commerce (1973); Fellow of American Ceramic Society (1972); Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Research Paper, National Bureau of Standards (1963); Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Research Paper, National Bureau of Standards (1964).

Dr. Haller also authored a widely cited textbook chapter: Wolfgang Haller: "Application of Controlled Pore Glass in Solid Phase Biochemistry".  Chapter 11, page 535-597 in "Solid Phase Biochemistry"  Editor: William H.
